The difference Between Celebration of Life
and a Funeral Service

A Celebrations of Life and a funeral are two different types of memorial service. One is for mourning death and the other celebrates life. Funerals are often sombre affairs focusing on the loved one’s passing and the traditional funeral order of death, whereas a Celebrations of Life is more about the person’s unique personality. Life services are held with an upbeat and celebratory theme, whilst still holding space for the emotions of grief.

A Celebrations of Life highlights a person’s achievements and positive contributions to the world. This positivity at a memorial service can help ease the pain of grief and comfort those left behind, the bereaved family, friends and colleagues. It can be in any form you prefer, religious, spiritual, nonreligious there are no rules or regulations.

Personalised and unique, created collaboratively

Honouring the memory of a dearly loved person is a very personal story and an important part of grieving. A Celebration of Life is a type of memorial service that is a unique and memorable way to pay tribute to a beloved family member. It can be personalized to reflect the individual’s spirit, accomplishments, or passions.

The Celebration can be created around you or the loved one’s wishes and preferences. You may choose remembrances and renditions of celebrating life, such as inviting family and friends to offer stories, sharing pictures or slide-shows or hosting a gathering over a lunch or afternoon tea. Adding music and artwork into your event can create an even more meaningful atmosphere, creating a special event that marks what the person did with their life on this earth.

It is possible to have a small cremation service and hold a Celebration of Life at a later date when the loved one’s affairs have been settled and a time for private grieving has taken place.
